The Orient Express

The Orient Express traveled a long route between Paris and Istanbul. It was the setting of the classic mystery novel Murder on the Orient Express, by Agatha Christie. Launched in 1883, the train offered luxury when travel was usually rough. See more.


The Trans-Siberian Railway

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest railway line in the world, connecting Moscow to the port of Vladivostok on the Pacific coast. Built between 1891 and 1916, it has a length of 9,289 kilometers. Its trains cross a record eight time zones. See more.

The Flying Scotsman

The Flying Scotsman is another of the world’s most-famous railways. It has offered service between Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, and London since 1862. This was always a long, heavy train requiring a powerful locomotive. See more.

South Africa’s Blue Train

South Africa’s Blue Train runs 1,600 kilometers between the cities of Pretoria and Cape Town. It has often been advertised as a “magnificent moving five-star hotel” offering luxury and even butlers. See more.
